How do you remove a dishwasher?

To remove a dishwasher, clean under the sink, shut off the power and water, expose and test the wiring, disconnect the drain line and pull the dishwasher out. Keep towels on hand as some water may be left in the drain pipe.

Follow several steps in order to remove a dishwasher.

1. Clean under the sink
Remove any items stored under the sink and check all of the water lines for corrosion or kinks.
2. Turn off the water and power
Before continuing any work, both the water valve under the sink and the power at the breaker box need to be turned off.
3. Expose and test the dishwasher's wiring
Remove the cover along the bottom of the dishwasher and use a voltage meter to test the wires to ensure the dishwasher does not have power. Then, remove the electrical box, unscrew the wire nuts and then pull apart the wires, starting with the green, then white, then black.
4. Disconnect the drain line
Disconnect the drain line connection from the water supply line.
5. Remove the dishwasher
Open the door and remove the screws that are secured to the counter top. Place cardboard or a drop cloth in front of the dishwasher to protect the floor. Then, use a wrench to raise the legs, move the wires out of the way and slowly pull out the dishwasher. The drain line should pull out as well.
