To clean mold from a wall, determine the cause of the mold, and make the necessary changes or repairs needed to prevent mold. Clean the wall with household cleaner, bleach and a vacuum that has a HEPA filter. The cleaning process may require several hours.
- Repair issues that cause mold
Control mold growth by reducing moisture in the home. Install and use a dehumidifier, and repair any water leaks that may cause the mold to return. Adequate ventilation also reduces mold growth.
- Clean the affected area
Mix a general-purpose cleaner according to the directions on the product packaging, and spray the affected area. Remove the cleaner and surface mold by wiping the surface of the wall with paper towels. To disinfect the area, mix a cup of bleach in a gallon of water, and spray the area with the mixture. Do not use bleach if the household cleaner used to clean the wall contains ammonia. Rinse the wall with warm water, and remove excess moisture with paper towels. Allow the wall to dry completely.
- Vacuum the wall
After the wall dries, vacuum the wall with a vacuum that has a HEPA filter for 60 seconds. Remove and dispose of the vacuum bag.
