Remove nail polish from fabric by testing the fabric with acetone, placing the garment over a clean towel and applying acetone with a cloth or cotton swab. Apply hydrogen peroxide to remove any remaining color from the fabric. Wash the garment using your normal laundry detergent to complete the process.
- Test the fabric with acetone
Locate an inconspicuous spot on the garment, and place a small amount of acetone on the fabric. If the acetone causes a color change or melts the fabric, the stain is likely permanent and can't be removed.
- Place the garment over a clean towel, and apply acetone
Use folded paper towels or a clean cloth to protect the area. Use acetone, which is included in most fingernail polish removers, blot the nail polish, and dissolve it. Apply the acetone with a cotton swab, cotton ball or small towel, depending on the size of the stain. Use a dry paper towel to absorb excess acetone from the fabric as quickly as possible.
- Remove the remaining color with hydrogen peroxide
Blot the stain with a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution to remove any remaining color from the material.
- Wash the garment
Wash the garment, making sure to follow the manufacturer's care label.
