To remove wax buildup from floors, vacuum the floors, mix a wax-stripping solution, apply the solution to a section of the floor, let it stand for 15 minutes, then scrub the floor. Use a squeegee to remove the solution.
- Begin with a clean floor
Remove any rugs or furnishings from the room. Use a vacuum to remove any dust or dirt from the floor.
- Mix the stripper solution
Thoroughly mix 1 cup of household ammonia, 1 cup of liquid laundry detergent and 1 gallon of water.
- Apply the stripper
Use a mop to apply the stripper to the floor. Begin in the area farthest from the exit and work one 4-foot-square section at a time. Allow the solution to soften the wax for about 15 minutes before proceeding.
- Scrub the section
Use a scrub brush to scrub the softened wax. Use a putty knife to scrape away any wax that resists scrubbing. Use an old toothbrush for any hard-to-reach areas.
- Remove the used wax
Use a squeegee to move the dirty solution into a dustpan. Dump the dirty solution into a plastic-lined garbage can. Continue until the section is dry.
- Repeat the process for other sections
Apply more wax stripper to the next section, and repeat the process. Continue until you strip the wax from the entire room.
