With nearly 1 million inhabitants as of July 2015, Kingston and its metro area house approximately a third of Jamaica’s population. The two most famous satellite neighborhoods in the area are Portmore and Spanish Town.

With homes exceeding $1 million, Cherry Gardens is one of Jamaica's most wealthy and also most-coveted neighborhoods to reside in. Jacks Hill is located in upper St. Andrew and has homes featured in MTV's show "Cribs." In the suburbs of Kingston, Norbrook is a prestigious neighborhood that boasts some of the most expensive homes in all of Jamaica. Other pricey Jamaican neighborhoods include Manor Park, Millsborough, Stony Hill and Smoky Vale. Residential areas such as Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Tower Isle offer more affordable housing within a resort community.

Mandeville, with a population of 47,115 people, and May Pen, with a population of 44,755, are two of the largest residential areas in Jamaica. Old Harbour, Linstead and Half Way Tree are home to more than 18,000 people each.

With 2.8 million people, Jamaica is the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. As the fifth largest island in the Caribbean, it is 4,240 square miles in area. Due to emigration from the country, Jamaica has a large diaspora.
