What is a rick of wood?

A rick of wood, also known as a face cord, is a wood pile measuring 8 feet wide by 4 feet high. The depth of the pile depends on the length of the logs. A pile of wood with long pieces has more wood than a pile with shorter pieces.

The only legal measurement of firewood is the full cord, which measures 8 feet wide by 4 feet high by 4 feet deep. The standard firewood length is 16 inches, so three heaps side by side measure 4 feet wide. A rick of wood is usually one-third of a full cord.
