As of 2015, Ricky Van Shelton is still alive. Van Shelton is a retired American country music artist who was active from 1986 to 2006.

Van Shelton was born on Jan. 12, 1952 in Danville, Virginia. He released his debut album, "Wild-Eyed Dream," in 1987, and was an immediate success in the U.S. country charts. He has released 17 albums in total, including six collaborations and two Christmas albums. In 2006, he decided to retire from the music business at the age of 54.

Van Shelton has been married to Bettye Witt since Aug. 4, 1986, the same year Van Shelton signed to CBS Records.
