Get rid of carpenter beetles by eliminating the source. Spray with insecticides, and apply dust formulations on infestation sites. You need a vacuum, insecticides and dust formulations. The timing of this process varies depending on the level of infestation.
- Eliminate the source of the infestation
Eliminate debris that attracts and harbors carpenter beetles. This includes dead insects, lint, hair, rodent nests and spider webs. Keep fabrics, rugs, draperies and furniture clean in order to get rid of infestations. Never bring outside plants or items indoors without first examining them for beetles.
- Spray the infestation site with insecticides
Purchase an insecticide specially formulated for carpenter beetles. Spray likely infestation sites such as cracks, crevices, closet walls and beneath furniture. If you find carpet beetle larva on a rug, spray both sides with the insecticide. Avoid spraying on tile and asphalt or around fire and electrical circuits. If using the spray on a linoleum floor, make sure the floor does not stain.
- Apply dust formulations on affected areas
Use a dust formulation, such as boric acid, for attics and wall voids. Do not spray it on items that contain natural dyes. It can also be problematic if sprayed around people with respiratory problems. Read the label carefully before using.
