How do you get rid of house centipedes?

To eliminate house centipedes, reduce the available moisture and food sources inside the home, and apply pesticides if the infestation is serious. Eliminating centipedes requires consistent management of the environment.
- Eliminate water sources
House centipedes are often found in damp locations, such as basements and bathrooms. Control the moisture in these areas by installing a dehumidifier or repairing water leaks as needed. Debris around the foundation of the home, such as decaying leaves, should be removed, and cracks and crevices should be sealed to prevent centipedes from entering the home.
- Reduce available food sources
Place sticky traps around the home to identify other types of pests living indoors that may attract centipedes, and take steps to eliminate pests, such as cockroaches, that provide the centipedes with a food source. Removing the food sources helps to reduce centipede populations inside the home.
- Apply pesticides
Diatomaceous earth and boric acid are powdered pesticides that can be used indoors to control centipede populations. Place the pesticides in areas where centipedes are frequently present or in areas with high pest populations as indicated by the use of glue traps. Powdered insecticides should only be placed in areas that are inaccessible to children and pets.
