To naturally repel mice, soak cotton balls in peppermint or clove essential oil, and place the cotton balls in the affected areas of the home. Sachets made with whole cloves, black pepper, dried cayenne and peppermint leaves also repel mice.

Place the sachets in areas where mice hide. To increase the effectiveness of the repellent, remove all food and water sources that attract the pests, and store dried foods in containers. To further repel mice, store blankets and other fabric items in sealed containers, and use caulking, steel wool or boards to seal cracks and crevices that the mice can use to enter the home.
