Rowan a drilling company that offers global offshore contract services features in its fleet four ultra-deepwater drillships. Additionally, the fleet includes 28 jack up rigs. Nineteen of the company's rigs rate as "high-specification."

The company founded as Rowan Drilling Company in 1924 by Charlie and Arch Rowan, became Rowan Companies, Inc. in 1971. The company went public in 1967, added its first Super Gorilla jack up rig in 1998 and added its first Tarzan class jack up rig in 2004. The company acquired Skeie Drilling & Production ASA in 2010, adding three North Sea compliant rigs in the process. Rowan entered the ultra-deepwater drilling market in 2011.
