What's the correct silverware position for a three-course meal?

Silverware placement for a three course meal follows an outside-in placement. Silverware that is used first is placed on the outside, while silverware used last is placed on the inside.

Since the dinner fork and knife are used after soup and salad, the dinner fork is placed directly to the left and the dinner knife directly to the right of the current plate. The salad fork is placed on the outside of the dinner fork, while the soup spoon is placed outside, to the right of the dinner knife. The dessert fork and spoon are placed on the outside of the plate, closest to the center of the table. The fork is placed closer to the plate and the spoon closer to the center of the table.
