What is the Safety Safari?

The Safety Safari is a group of people who work to ensure safe track conditions at National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) events. This group has been active since the 1960s, and it has a mission of ensuring driver and spectator safety while also helping to keep the track in prime condition.

The latter goal has a safety function; it's not just an aesthetic effort. Broken or otherwise damaged race track can lead to serious hazards for drivers who are usually driving upwards of 100 miles per hour and don't always have time to react.
