Do plant cells have lysosomes?

Plant cells do not contain lysosomes. Lysosomes are present in the cells of animals, and they are responsible for breaking down waste and other cell debris.

According to research from Princeton University, in animals, lysosomes assist the body with digesting nutrients from food. In plants as well as in yeast cells, this job is performed by lytic vacuoles. Lytic vacuoles detoxify plants and maintain overall homeostasis within the cell. Without these parts, a plant would not grow to full maturity. Similarly, without lysosomes, animals would be unable to process food within the body or break down the body's cells after death.
