What is pOH?

The definition of "pOH" is the negative of the logarithm of the concentration of hydroxide ions in a solution in units of molarity in base 10. It describes how alkaline a solution is; the more alkaline a solution is, the higher the concentration of hydroxide ions in the solution.
Water has a pOH of 7. Solutions with a pOH of more than 7 are acidic, while solutions with a pOH of less than 7 are alkaline. At room temperature, the pOH of a solution can be obtained approximately by subtracting the pH of the solution from 14. The pH is the negative of the logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution in units of molarity in base 10.
