How do you send a private message on Facebook?

A user can send a private message to another user on Facebook by typing the text into the private message box and hitting send. To open the message box, click on the Messages tab, which is located on the left menu.

After clicking on Messages, select the New Message option and type the name of the receiver in the To field. The names of the friends, or the people the user knows, will start appearing in the dropdown menu. Select the person who is going to receive the message, type the text and select Send.
