Different states have different certification requirements for septic tank inspectors, but typically, individuals can take a course and test through InterNACHI or NSF International to receive certification, states the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, InterNACHI and NSF websites. Most states offer a list of certification requirements through their government websites.
InterNACHI is a nonprofit organization devoted to training and certifying home inspectors in a number of areas, states its website. To access and review the Septic Systems course:
- Visit the website
- Click "Inspector Education"
- Click "How to Inspect Septic Systems"
- Sign up
Go to the InterNACHI home page.
Click on the "Inspector Education" tab along the top navigation bar and click on "Online Inspection Courses."
Scroll through the available courses and click on the "How to Inspect Septic Systems" course header.
Review the course requirements and click on the "Take the free, online course now" to sign up.
To access the accreditation course through NSF:
- Visit the website
- Click "Services"
- Click "Wastewater"
- Click "Inspector Accreditation"
Go to the NSF home page.
Click on the "Services" tab and click on the "Water and Wastewater" tab under the "Services by Industry" header.
Click on the "Wastewater" link on the right side of the page.
Click on the "Inspector Accreditation" link on the right side of the page to review the accreditation process and apply for the course.
