The serviceberry tree blooms white flowers in the spring. The flowers turn into purple berries that birds eat during the summer. In the fall, the bluish green leaves of the serviceberry tree turn orange or red.
The serviceberry tree can grow in the sun or in partial shade environments. A mature plant is 8 to 20 feet high and 4 to 20 feet wide. The tree grows in USDA hardiness zones 2 through 9, which includes almost all areas of the U.S. except the warmest portions of California, Texas and Florida. The plant was named based on the fact that it tends to flower around Easter.
