What are sewer bugs?

Sewer bugs are cockroaches, according to Orkin. Sometimes the creatures are called water roaches as well, though the Oriental cockroach is the official common name. Sewer bugs act in the same fashion as more common household cockroaches.

Orkin explains that sewer bugs generally live in cool environments such as basements. They also may be discovered in kitchen sinks, bathtubs and showers. This species lacks the sticky pads on their feet that other roaches possess, so they can't escape a tub or sink that has smooth sides. Baits are the most effective way of preventing an infestation of water bugs, according to Orkin.
