When should Christmas decorations be taken down?

Deciding when to take down Christmas decorations is a matter of personal tradition, but a good guideline is to take them down shortly after January 6. That is the date of the Epiphany, which marks the end of the Christmas celebration, according to William B. Bradshaw in the Huffington Post.
Epiphany celebrates the day the Wise Men, or Magi, arrived to visit the baby Jesus, but it is not celebrated in all churches. For people who do not celebrate Epiphany, on or after New Year's Day is a good time to take down the decorations, weather and time permitting. Christmas decorations should come down by the end of January at the latest unless extreme weather prevents it from being done safely.
