How should you dispose of large planter boxes?

Recycling centers commonly accept large plastic planter boxes, while a few curbside recycling companies pick up large planter boxes. Some gardening centers also accept large plastic planters and may be able to recycle them.
Recycling centers and curbside pickup likely require that the boxes are clean of dirt and organic debris. Cement planters can usually be brought to recycling centers. The centers usually crush them for use as construction rubble. Terra cotta, ceramic, glass and some plastic containers cannot be recycled and must be disposed of in the trash. Breaking the planters into smaller pieces helps fit the planters into average sized trash barrels for curbside pickup.
