Should gout sufferers avoid eating every kind of meat?

People with gout do not have to eliminate all kinds of meat, but they should avoid those high in saturated fat and purines, notes Mayo Clinic. Red meat, fatty fish and some other seafoods all elevate the risk of gout, so sufferers should avoid them in favor of poultry.

To get the recommended amount of protein while reducing saturated fats, gout sufferers can add legumes and beans, as well as low-fat and fat-free dairy products, to their diets, reports Mayo Clinic. Even with poultry, gout sufferers should eat no more than 6 ounces per day because of the purine content.
