What should you look for when buying a used jet boat?

The major considerations when buying a used jet boat are the boat's general condition, the history of the vehicle, whether it has a transferable warranty and the trustworthiness of the seller. Buyers should also look at the jet motor, the impellers and the hull shape.
Before buying any vessel, new or used, always take it for a test drive, and listen for the engine sucking water, called cavitation, which can cause damage. A jet boat hull shaped at a 9- to 12-degree V angle offers the best performance. Inspect the hull and impellers for chips, dents or cracks, and research online for the reliability of the make and model of the jet motor.
