Should a specialist install a hot water tank?

Installing a hot water heater does not require a specialist as long as the homeowner has some basic plumbing skills, but if the heater uses gas, the homeowner needs to take special care. The weight and bulk of the tanks mean that having a friend to help is wise.
Keeping a fire extinguisher close by is a must when changing out a gas-powered hot water heater, as are turning off the gas and ensuring that the pilot light is out before unhooking the heater. Draining the old heater and connecting the new flex pipe segments to the new heater require some plumbing skill whether the heater is electric or gas-powered.
