What side is your gallbladder on?

The gallbladder is on the right side of the body, just under the liver. It stores bile produced by the liver until it is needed for fat digestion. Once needed for digestion, the bile moves through the small intestine, deflating the gallbladder until the bile builds up again.
The gallbladder often develops gallstones. Sometimes these gallstones block ducts leading to the small intestine. This can cause intermittent or steady pain in the stomach or upper right portion of the belly.
An ultrasound is used to diagnose gallstones. The gallbladder can be removed with few consequences. Difficulty absorbing fat and diarrhea are the most common side effects.
