Signs of low blood sugar often include dizziness, blurred vision, a fast heartbeat, sweating and shakiness, according to WebMD. Low blood sugar leads to additional symptoms as it grows worse, such as muscle twitching, slurred speech, inability to concentrate, irritability and personality changes.

When blood sugar becomes severely low, it may cause a stroke, a seizure, loss of consciousness or death, explains WebMD. During sleep, low blood sugar can cause restlessness, nightmares and sleepwalking.

Individuals who have had diabetes for many years may not experience the initial, milder symptoms of low blood sugar, according to WebMD. Others with low blood sugar may have few or no symptoms.
