According to Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE), some mild signs of a strawberry allergy are hives, eczema, itchy mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dry cough, or red itchy skin. Symptoms will develop within two hours of eating strawberries.
A severe sign of an allergy to a food such as strawberries is called anaphylaxis. Symptoms can include swelling of the lips, tongue and throat; shortness of breath; drop in blood pressure; and loss of consciousness, according to FARE. These reactions can be life threatening. Any signs of anaphylaxis will require immediate medical attention. Skin prick tests or blood tests can be done by a physician to confirm the allergy.
