Pluto is only slightly over 1400 miles wide, about half the width of the continental United States. From its discovery in 1930 until 2006, Pluto was the ninth planet of the solar system, but in 2006, it was demoted to dwarf planet status.

Pluto is only the second largest dwarf planet, ranking behind Eris. It is smaller than many of the solar system's moons, including Earth's moon, of which it is about 2/3 the size. The gravity on Pluto is only about 1/15 that of the gravity on Earth. According to NASA, that means a person who weighs 100 pounds on Earth weighs only about 7 pounds on Pluto.
