What is a skateboard car?

A skateboard car is a small motorized vehicle about the size of a laptop computer. The device can be controlled without hands when an individual stands on it and shifts her weight in the desired direction.

The motor in a skateboard car starts automatically when a person stands on it, and automatically switches off when the person steps off. Its top speed is around six miles per hour, which makes it well suited for traveling along pedestrian walkways on city streets. As of January 2016, the skateboard car is not available for purchase by the general public, but has been fully funded through Kickstarter.
