SketchUp is a program used to create architectural and mechanical drawings, as well as 3D models. It is designed to be easy to use for beginners to CAD, or Computer-Aided Design. Formerly owned by Google, the software is now owned and managed by Trimble Navigation.
SketchUp may be downloaded at the website, SketchUp.com, and is available in two editions: Make, which is free to use, and Pro, which requires a license. In addition to SketchUp, the site hosts 3D Warehouse, a collection of 3D models in .skp format freely available for use in SketchUp projects. SketchUp.com also hosts Extension Warehouse, a collection of plug-ins designed to add more functionality to SketchUp, such as enhanced 3D rendering and additional camera controls.
