Where are SNAP benefits?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, helps to provide food from the five major food groups to individuals and families who meet the low-income requirements. Those who qualify can use the benefits to purchase qualifying food, seeds and plants that produce foods and meals from restaurants in allowed areas.

Healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables and breads, are qualifying foods under the SNAP program. Other foods that qualify include poultry, meats and dairy products. While hot foods and foods served in stores do not generally qualify under SNAP benefits, low-cost restaurant meals are available to qualified homeless, disabled and elderly people who are SNAP recipients.
