What is solar salt made of?

Solar salt is made up of over 99 percent pure salt. It is crystallized naturally overtime by the wind and sun from sea water or natural salt brine.

Solar salt is cloudy and white and is not easily dissolved. It is formed during a process where highly salted water, which has been confined in shallow ponds, is then allowed to evaporate. The wind and sun permit the salt water to vaporize gradually and naturally from these ponds, leaving behind a bed of salt. The salt is then harvested, washed to remove impurities and dried. This whole process can take between one and five years to complete.
