The Southern Regional Jail near Beckley, West Virginia, opened in 1994, according to the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority. It is located in Raleigh County at 1200 Airport Road in Beaver.

The construction was scheduled to be completed by March 20, 1994, but was delayed by 89 days until July 14, 1994, according to a West Virginia court opinion in the case of Kenhill Construction Company Inc. vs. West Virginia Regional Jail and Facility Authority.

The Southern Regional Jail serves seven southeastern West Virginia counties: Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming, notes the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority.
