The construction was scheduled to be completed by March 20, 1994, but was delayed by 89 days until July 14, 1994, according to a West Virginia court opinion in the case of Kenhill Construction Company Inc. vs. West Virginia Regional Jail and Facility Authority.
The Southern Regional Jail serves seven southeastern West Virginia counties: Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming, notes the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority.
