At what speed do different liquids evaporate?
By Forinfos - 26/10/2025 - 0 comments
How fast a liquid evaporates depends upon the type of liquid and the volume of the liquid, as well as how large the surface area upon which the liquid is spread. For example, if the same volume of water is placed in three petridishes of differing sizes, the water in the petridish with the largest diameter evaporates first.
If ten milliliters of water, diethyl ether and acetone are all placed in separate petridishes of the same size, the diethyl ether and acetone samples evaporate visibly faster than the water sample. This occurs because water has extensive hydrogen bonding between the oxygen atoms of one molecule and the hydrogen atom of another.
