Drivers who receive speeding tickets also incur three penalty points, states the U.K. government. Drivers who accrue at least 12 penalty points during a three year period may be subject to a suspension of driving privileges.

Speed limits in the United Kingdom for cars and motorcycles are 30 mph in built-up areas, 60 mph on highways that don't have center dividers, and 70 mph on freeways and highways with center dividers, according to Visit Britain.
