The Colt Frontier Six Shooter was a variant of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. It was in production between the years of 1873 and 1895.

The Colt Frontier Six Shooter was designed to fire .44-40 Winchester caliber ammunition instead of the .45 Colt cartridges commonly used by other Single Action Army models. This allowed users who carried both a rifle and revolver (often the Winchester Model 1873 or 1892) to fire the same type of ammunition from each. Colt Double Action Army models produced in 1878 that were chambered for .44-40 Winchester ammunition are also labeled as Frontier Six Shooters.
