In 2013, the Auburn Tigers football team lost to just two schools. The team lost its first game of the year to the LSU Tigers. The school didn't lose another game until the FBS National Championship game, when it was defeated by Florida State.

When Auburn played LSU in week four of the regular season, Louisiana State was ranked as the sixth-best team in the country. Auburn fell behind by 21 points in the first half and eventually lost 35 to 21. In the National Championship game, Auburn built a 21 to 10 halftime lead, but Florida State rallied in the second half and won the game 34 to 31.
