What is heel-and-toe shifting?
By Forinfos - 27/05/2026 - 0 comments
Heel-and-toe shifting is a gear-shifting technique primarily used in race car driving that allows a driver to maneuver quickly and smoothly around corners. In racing, it is considered an essential time-saving technique.
Heel-and-toe shifting involves using the left foot to operate the clutch while using the right foot to control the brake and gas pedals simultaneously. The technique is used to maintain maximum speed and seamless gear changes through turns, and it allows the vehicle’s transmission to achieve the ideal revolutions per minute necessary to accelerate out of a turn. It also prevents jolting of the vehicle during downshifts, thereby giving the driver more control.
