According to the Girl Scouts of America, the local Girl Scout Council receives 65 to 75 percent of the retail price paid for Girl Scout cookies. Participating Girl Scout troops receive an average of 10 to 20 percent of the local retail price.
All revenue, minus payment to the baker for the cost of the cookies, goes to the Council and troops. The Council determines the amount of the revenue that it shares with the participating Girl Scout troops. Cookie sales provide critical funding for Girl Scout councils. No revenue from cookie sales goes to the national Girl Scouts. However, the national organization receives royalties from its licensed bakers for use of its trademarks, based upon gross annual sales.
