The Detroit Lions have hosted a Thanksgiving Day game each year since 1934, with the exception of a brief World War II interruption. The Lions' Turkey Day streak is unmatched by any NFL franchise.

The inaugural game, held in the Motor City in 1934, saw the defending-champion Chicago Bears defeat the host Lions 19-16. At the start of the 2014 season, the Lions held an all-time record of 34-38-2 in the annual game, with its 12 victories over the Green Bay Packers the most against any one team. The Lions have hosted Thanksgiving games at University of Detroit Stadium, Tiger Stadium, the Pontiac Silverdome and the team's current home of Ford Field.
