Square offers credit card processing services for businesses of all sizes, including small home-based businesses. A free card reader plugs into the headphone jack on smartphones and iPads, enabling home businesses to accept credit card payments.

Square charges a fee per transaction. Swiped credit cards incur a 2.75 percent fee, while manually entered credit cards cost 3.5 percent plus 15 cents, as of 2015. The fee comes out of the amount charged. The remaining amount goes into the user's bank account in one to two business days.

Square does not charge a monthly fee for services. This makes the service affordable for home businesses that may not have a large sales volume.
