According to WebMD, individuals can spread staph germs to others through direct contact with open, weeping sores or by sharing items that are contaminated with staph bacteria. Infected individuals can prevent the spread of staph germs by keeping affected areas clean and covered.
MedlinePlus explains that carbuncles are skin infections that are typically caused by staphylococcus bacteria. The infections develop deep within hair follicles and can spread to other individuals as well as other areas of the body. Carbuncles contain bacteria and dead skin cells and often drain and heal on their own within two weeks. Severe carbuncles may require treatment with oral or topical antibiotics.
