A star code is a unique code that provides access to the Innerstar University web site. From 2010 until early 2015, one star code was included with the purchase of each American Girl doll.

In May 2015, it was announced that the Innerstar University web site planned to close on November 5, 2015. New American Girl dolls sold after this announcement do not have star codes.

The Innerstar University web site features online games, stories and customizable avatars. Users can name their virtual dolls, purchase outfits for them and talk to other users through forums. Until the closing date, the site remains active for all members.
