What is the statute of limitations in California for collecting child support?

In California, there is no statute of limitations for collecting child support. This means that uncollected child support is always enforceable until fully paid.

There is also no statute of limitations for determining paternity. Whenever paternity is determined, child support payments may be sought and enforced until the child turns 18 or graduates high school. If high school graduation occurs after the age of 18, child support payments may be collected until the child turns 19.

In case of a disability (physical or mental) that prevents a son or daughter from finding employment, the parents may agree in a Family Law Court to continue child support for longer.
