There have been no studies proving that Sweet and Low and other sweeteners have a negative effect on health, as stated by Mayo Clinic. All sweeteners must be approved by the United States Food and Drug administration.
There was a study done on saccharin in the 1970s, Mayo Clinic notes. It showed that the sweetener could lead to cancer and other major issues. However, this was never proven. Sweet and Low and other artificial sweeteners now have to pass a series of tests before they are allowed to be sold to the public. As with most foods, these sweeteners are considered safe in moderation. They also have a few benefits, such as they can help manage diabetes and lower weight.
