Two of the best sweeteners for diabetics are Sweetleaf and Truvia, according to WebMD. Both of these sweeteners taste exactly like sugar and don't cause spikes in blood sugar.
Another good sugar substitute is Whey Low, states WebMD. This sweetener is a combination of three other common sugars, blended in such a way as to not be completely absorbed by the body. The result is a low-calorie substitute that has only a minimal effect on blood sugar. Xylitol is another good sugar substitute. This sweetener is a natural-occurring sugar alcohol found in beets, corn and berries; it is only partially absorbed by the body, resulting in a low glycemic index.
