What do sunfish eat?

Sunfish prefer to eat jellyfish, although they also eat zooplankton, algae and small fish. They are omnivorous, meaning that they eat both plants and animals.
The physical attributes of sunfish and the areas in which they live impact their diets. Also known as the mola, sunfish are indigenous to temperate and tropical areas and are often found near the surface of the ocean. Sunfish are very large, growing up to 14 feet and weighing up to 5,000 pounds. They are very ineffective swimmers due to their large, bullet-like bodies and dorsal and anal fins, leaving them to eat ocean life that is relatively easy to catch.
