Some of the best surfwear brands include The Critical Slide Society, Battenwear, Cuisse de Grenouille, Birdwell's Beach Britches, Katin, TwoThirds and Insight, as listed by Complex. Some other brands include Saturdays and Lightning Bolt.

In addition, Complex lists Patagonia, Mollusk and M.Nii as one of the top 12 surfwear brands. M.Nii was founded by Minoru Nii in Oahu, Hawaii in 1951 at a time when surfers were only limited to cutoff sailor pants. The brand was later revived by John Moore and Randy Hild in 2012. Lightning Bold was also established in Oahu by Gerry Lopez and Jack Shipley in 1970, while Katin was founded in 1959 in Surfside, California by Walter and Nancy Katin.
