The Susan B. Anthony dollar coin is 99.67 percent copper and 8.33 percent nickel. The coin, minted from 1979 to 1981, is clad to a pure copper core.

After its original run, the Susan B. Anthony coin was minted again in 1999 as a replacement to the Eisenhower dollar. 500 million coins were minted, but the public did not receive the coin well because it was similar in size and shape to the quarter.

The coin features a right-facing profile of Susan B. Anthony on one side and an eagle clutching a laurel branch over a landscape of the moon on the reverse side. The coin was originally meant to have a unique hendecagon shape, but was protested by vending machine makers as the coin would not be recognized by such machines. A round coin with an eleven-sided inner border was chosen as the final shape of the coin.
