What are symptoms of chlamydia in men?

Discharge from the penis, painful urination, and burning and itching around the tip of the penis are all symptoms of chlamydia in men, according to WebMD. A man also may experience swelling or discomfort around the testicles.
Since symptoms of chlamydia are not always apparent, it can be difficult for a man to realize he has the condition, explains WebMD. If symptoms occur, they are visible within two to three weeks after contact. A man who suspects he has chlamydia should see a doctor and be tested. The test for chlamydia is usually done by taking a swab of cells in the urethra or through a urine test. The test is sent to a lab for analysis before a positive diagnosis is made.
Treatment for chlamydia typically involves oral antibiotics such as azithromycin or doxycycline, states WebMD. It is recommended that a man's partner or partners get treated for chlamydia as well, in order to prevent the spread or re-infection of the disease. Once the treatment has started, it typically takes about two weeks before it is complete. Even if a man is feeling better, he should continue to take the antibiotic until it is finished. When that occurs, many doctors ask patients to get re-tested for the infection and to refrain from sex until the infection is completely gone.
